ENG: When the word M1 rifle is mentioned, the first thing that comes to mind is the "little brother" of the Garand. The rifle's compact size, light weight and low recoil made it popular not only with American soldiers, but also with the Chinese. Only a few hundred were issued up to 1949, and during the Korean War it was a popular weapon to loot. Opinions vary widely as to its effectiveness, but let's look at a few facts and decide for ourselves:
- It had almost no stopping power, and often the enemy would still run toward the shooter after 4-5 shots, so in the Korean War some units had special orders to aim it only on the head. Several US reports on the mass human waves by Chinese PVA soldiers have pointed out that the weapon was completely ineffective against an enemy attacking in such waves
- It was not powerful enough to penetrate light cover and small trees
- It was very badly mangled by the conical ammunition
- It jammed very often in cold environments
- Within the US soldiers, many replaced the Colt 1911 with M1 Carbine, but it was a much more effective and accurate choice

The M3 version, with night vision and accessories
ENG: The M1 Carbine used 7.52x33mm ammunition with either 15 or 30 round mags (the latter had many and frequent feeding problems) and the M1/A1 version had a rate of fire of 60-70 rounds per minute and the M2 version 750 rounds per minute, although the burst option on the latter ate the bolt up, it performed well in close combat. The M3 model retained the features of the M2, except that the burst firing function was removed. There was, however, an extra addition to the M3, called the T3 or T120 during the experimental phase: the weapon was able to operate with a new night vision scope, which required the operator to carry an extra battery. This version was equipped with a front grip, which not only made it easier to coordinate shots, but also enabled the operator to activate the mini-reflector on top of the weapon (which could only be seen from the opposite side by someone who had such infra-red equipment). If this was not switched on, the infra could only be used at relatively close range. Compared to the other M1 variants, the M3 also had a special flash hider.
HUN: Az M3-ast viszonylag kis darabszámban gyártották, 1944-től a 2.
ENG: M3's were produced in relatively small numbers, with 2,100 produced from 1944 until the end of World War 2, but they were first officially used in the Korean War. The Chinese, when they first captured it, had no idea what it was, but after a brief study they found out what they had, and immediately put the captured pieces into service. Because it could be used at night, it was very popular within the PVA soldiers who had it.
ENG: Although it had a very limited range of sight and was rather fitted to the M2 machine guns by the Americans, it was considered as a high-tech stuff in the 40s and early 50s!
