A 7,62 mm-es kínai Type 50 géppisztoly a szovjet PPSh43 35 töltényes, szekrénytáras változata volt, amely a szabványos szovjet pisztoly- és géppisztolylőszert (7,62x25 mm Tokarev) tüzelte és 900 lövés/perces tűzgyorsaságot tudhatott magáénak. A lövedék kaliberét néha kritizálták a kellő megállítóerő hiánya miatt, de amikor a lőszer a testbe vagy az agyba hatolt, elég hatékonyan vetett véget a "vitának". A kínaiak elsősorban szovjet fegyverekkel csak a Koreai Háború 1. éve után fegyverkeztek fel, ezek mintájára ekkor kezdték el a saját modelljeik sorozatgyártását is. A fenti 50-es típus 1950-ben került gyártásba, és egyike volt azoknak a fegyvereknek, amelyek rendelkezésre álltak a PVA háborúba lépésének pillanatában. A szekrénytár azért is volt elterjedtebb ehhez a modellhez, mert a kínai hadiipar több nehézséggel is küszködött ezekben az években, a csigatár gyártása pedig kellőképpen "bonyolult" és drága lett volna.
ENG: The 7.62 mm Chinese Type 50 submachine gun was a 35-round magazine version of the Soviet PPSh43, which fired the standard Soviet pistol and submachine gun ammunition (7.62x25 mm Tokarev) and had a rate of fire of 900 rounds per minute. The calibre of the projectile was sometimes criticised for lacking sufficient stopping power, but when the ammunition penetrated the body or brain it was quite effective in ending the "discussion". The Chinese were not armed in great number with Soviet weapons until after the first year of the Korean War, but this was the moment when they began mass production of their own versions based on the Soviet models. The above Type 50 was produced in 1950 and was one of the weapons available at the time the PVA entered the war. The cabinet magazine was also more common for this model because the Chinese military industry was experiencing a number of difficulties during these years, and the production of a drum magazine would have been sufficiently "complicated" and expensive.
